One of my favorite memories with Mom was a week or so before her 90th birthday.
We took a drive up the coast to San Simeon. She kept asking, "Where are we going?
San Francisco?"
I said, "No, Ma. We're just going a little past Cambria for lunch."
When we turned off Highway 1, under the eucalyptus, she exclaimed, "Oh, I remember this
place."
We had such a warm, wonderful afternoon sitting out on the old porch in front of Sebastian's.
We shared a pastrami sandwich. We gazed at the ocean, marveled at the clouds, and the moment was perfect. She said, "This is my birthday present. This is the best."
It was, Mom. Just the best. A memory I will keep close forever.
