Obituary of Orville Armstrong

Died March 17, 2012, three days after a joyful 100th birthday. Orville was born in Bakersfield, California, March 14, 1902. He attended high school there. After obtaining a degree at Occidental College, he returned to Bakersfield and taught school successively from grade school forward to Vice Principal for Curriculum Development. A world wide traveler, Orville visited 104 countries and developed colored slides much demanded for showings. He served in World War II, his assignment to teach soldiers with impaired hearing from combat how to read lips. When he retired to Valle Verde Community, he proceeded to build from scratch its present outstanding library. The many whose lives have crossed Orville?s will remember his joyful participation in life and the example he inspired. Survivors are nephew Michael Armstrong and protégé like a son, Japanese Kiyoshi Nakahara.
