Susan Portier

Obituary of Susan Liberty Portier

Susan, a devoted mother and loving friend to many, passed away peacefully on January 31st, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a very loving and devoted mother of two beautiful girls, Maya, 14, and Kara, 12. Inspired by their mom’s strength and courage, the girls are certain to carry on her spirit through their kind, loving and thoughtful nature. She was born in Syracuse, New York to her pre-deceased dear parents George Liberty Jr. and Shirley Dowd Liberty. After graduating from North Syracuse High School in 1980, Susan earned a business degree at the State University of New York @ Potsdam. After being employed by Kellogg’s as a Sales and Marketing Executive throughout New England for many years, Susan relocated to Santa Barbara, California to begin a family. Susan is special to many members of the community and known for her kindness and giving spirit. In addition to volunteering at her daughters’ schools in many capacities, her sincere pursuit to improve education for all is evident in the many hours she served as a dedicated member of DAC at Ellwood Elementary School. The community was fortunate to have Susan’s dedication and input as her ideas and values will remain a part of Ellwood’s core indefinitely. She is survived by her daughters, Maya R. and Kara J. their father Reginald R. Portier and her siblings, Larry, Linda, Jack, Bob and Cherie, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Please join us for a celebration of Susan’s life at Goleta Beach Friday, February 3rd, at 3:30. Donations for her daughters will be accepted at Montecito Bank and Trust, Goleta Branch.
