Obituary of Charles David Glenn

Charles "Chuck" Glenn, 87, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at his home in Atascadero surrounded by family. Born in 1924 in Kentucky, Chuck moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1928. He joined the California Conservation Corps during the Great Depression then later enlisted in the US Navy where he, served as an aerial gunner. Several years later, Chuck met his wife, Neva, in Los Angeles, where they married. He attended and graduated from Woodbury Business College. Afterwards he worked in sales for several large companies before establishing his own real estate firm, Glenn Realty in Whittier, California. Chuck sold residential real estate for over 25 years in Whittier where he served several years on the city Planning Commission. Along with his two sons, Charles Jr. and Thomas, the three became avid soaring pilots, flying motorless sailplanes in Southern California. Chuck was also an enthusiastic downhill skier with his family for many years and continued skiing until the age of 85. Chuck and Neva moved to Atascadero in 1978, where they planted a 5-acre hillside with native plants. It is now considered a natural wildlife habitat. Both he and Neva were active in local and national environmental causes. Chuck genuinely enjoyed conversation and was widely liked. He easily made many good friends. Services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to McDermott-Crockett Mortuary.
