Obituary of Janet Horton

Age 77, passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011. She was born on August 30, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio to Thayer "Poppa" Horton and Marjorie Norris. After her family moved to Pasadena, California, she graduated from John Muir High School and attended business college. She lived for several years in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Santa Barbara to be near her sister's family and her father. She worked for many years in the budget and planning department at UCSB, where she discovered blueprints drafted by her mother, the first licensed female landscape architect in California. Janet loved genealogy and spent decades learning about and documenting her family history. In addition to her family and friends, her life was centered around Christ and the First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara, where she sang soprano in the chancel choir. Janet is survived by her sister Marjorie Ehlen; nephew Pete and his family (Vicki, Ryan, Heather, Nick); nephew Mark and his family (Forrest and Madison); niece Alison and her family (Nico and Kenny); many other dear relatives and friends; and her kitty "Lil' Bit." A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, at the First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara, 949 Veronica Springs Road, Santa Barbara (805 682-2485). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet's memory to the church.
