Obituary of Ernest Earl Eddy

Ernest Earl Eddy passed away October 25, 2011 at Baywood Manor in Los Osos. Ernest was born in Orland California, where he was born in a section car for Southern Pacific Railroad on May 31, 1920. He was expected to be born in his parents home but he arrived before it was finished. He graduated from high school at age 16 and then went to Herolds business college for two years. While attending business school he worked for the Greyhound Bus Lines. Ernest was in the Navy from November, 1941 until October,1945. He began work for Metropolitan Life in 1949 as a salesman then transferred to business and accounting, continued there until retiring in 1985. He lived in Sausalito area from 1945 until 1954. In 1954 he moved to Fresno until retiring in 1985 when he moved to Los Osos. He loved birding, hiking, canoeing, square dancing and being in nature. Ernest and Barbara also did extensive traveling all over the world, including many trips to Alaska to visit family. He was active in the Yosemite Natural History Association, Audubon society and Square dancing in both Fresno and Los Osos. He was a long standing member of the Sierra Club. Through Central Coast State Parks he led groups in Coon creek, the Montano de Oro (MDO) Bluffs, Shark inlet to the beach for 20 years. Ernest and Barbara also volunteered at Sea Shore Wonders for 7 years where they set up tents for children to experience marine animals. Ernest married the love of his life, Barbara O. Busenburg, on February 5, 1945. They were married 66 years and had three children, Roger Scott Eddy (wife Janet, sons Tim and Tyler) who preceded him in death in 1989, Steven Grand Eddy of Pacific Grove (sons Thomas and David) and Teresa S. Eddy of Santa Barbara (sons Nathan M. Finch, Sage M. Finch and Jacob E. Finch). He was patient, loving and kind. His wife Barbara was very fortunate to have his affection. In place of flowers donations may be made to Central Coast Natural History Association (CCNHA) or Hospice Partners of the Central Coast.
