Sally Hankins

Obituary of Sally A. Hankins

Sally Ann Hankins died peacefully on Tuesday, October 18th at her home in Solvang, Ca. after a ten year battle with cancer. She had lived a very full life beginning with her birth in Waterloo, Iowa on May 18th 1941. Sally was predeceased by her husband, Bob Hankins, her parents, Charles Chapman and Erma Lou Gain, and uncle Donald Stevens. She was educated in Waterloo, graduating from West High School in 1959. Shortly after she re-located to Santa Barbara, CA., where she began raising a family and beginning a career which spanned land title, banking, and savings and loan businesses. Shortly before retiring She and Bob moved to the quiet and peaceful town of Solvang where she remained for the rest of her life. Sally was an inspiration to all, over the years, and was marveled for her spirit, zest for life, and energy. She especially rejoiced in her role as grand and great-grandmother, always with a smile on her face when the kids were around. She also enjoyed travel, golf, reading, line dancing, church activities, and her many friends. During the latter stages of her illness she was helped by many people, but especially by Ursula De Oliveira and Sue Watkins. Their efforts are very much appreciated by the family. Sally is survived by sons Scott Marcussen and Eric Tatjes (Charlotte) of Santa Barbara, daughter Kristen Ramsey (Brett) of New Braunfels, TX., brothers Jim Chapman (Carolyn) of Palm Desert, CA., Tom Chapman (Bonnie) of Santa Barbara, CA., niece Lori Chapman of Sebastopol, CA., nephew Brian Chapman (Lya) of Santa Rosa, CA., grand-children James and Hunter Watson of New Braunfels, TX., Olivia and Nora Tatjes of Santa Barbara, and great grand-children Bailey and Rylan Watson in Texas. The family requests donations to be made in Sally's name to the local chapter of Meals on Wheels.
