Maxine Clarke

Obituary of Maxine Clarke

Born July 7, 1925, went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2011. She died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law under hospice care. Upon learning she had cancer she found peace in Gods promise of eternal life with Jesus Christ. Maxine and husband Denys Clarke, a teacher at Harding School, moved to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles in 1950. Here they raised four children: Jane Clarke Eller, David, Paul, and Mary Clarke Gonzalez. She worked at All-American Sporting Goods and as secretary at Grace Church. They lived in Lompoc 20 years and after Denys's death she lived with her daughters in SB and Thermal, CA. She is survived by children Jane, Paul, and Mary, David having died in 1977; also sons-in-law Les Eller and Salvador Gonzalez, daughter-in-law Peggy Gillilan Clarke, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Becoming Christians in 1962 Maxine and Denys found their purpose in knowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and serving within the church and community. "I leave this life for eternity with Jesus Christ, grateful for His salvation and the years of loving acceptance of His people." Family and friends greatly miss her, but we rejoice in the promise of her risen life with Jesus Christ. Memorial service will be Sat., Oct. 15, 1:00 pm Community Covenant Church, 5070 Cathedral Oaks Rd.
