Obituary of Edythe Cavender

After 99 1/2 fulfilling years, Edythe (Edie) Cavender passed peacefully in the early morning of August 3, 2012. Born on January 26, 1913 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, she was the only child of George Thomas and Mary McDougall Walker. The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1923 where Edythe graduated from Grant High School. Edythe attended Oregon State College (Oregon State University) graduating with honors in 1934 with a degree in Home Economics.It was during these years that she was introduced to her beloved Noel C. whom she married on July 18, 1937 sharing 59 wonderful years before his passing in 1996. Between 1937 and 1978 Edythe and Noel lived in Salem and Portland Oregon and Burlingame, California. In retirement they moved to Encina Royale in Goleta where Edythe remained until her move to Heritage House in March of 2011. Over the years Edythe supported her children's school endeavors and participated in multiple community activities. She was a Chi Omega Alumna and a member of the P.E.O. (Chapter OK). Born into a Presbyterian family, she was actively involved in numerous ministries at Westminster (Portland, Oregon) Burlingame and Goleta Presbyterian Church. Edythe is survived by her son George Cavender and his wife Patti of Atherton, California and her daughter, Jeannie Cavender of Santa Barbara. She delighted in her four grandchildren: Lynne Cavender of Maui, Hawaii, Anne Anderson and husband Nathan of Menlo Park, California, Leigh Ann Robinson and husband Steve of Twisp, Washington and Scott Wolfe of Goleta. Edythe felt blessed to have known her great grandchildren: James Thomas (J.T.) and Elizabeth Grace (Lily) Anderson and Meaghan Mary and Juliana Grace Robinson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 11:00am at Goleta Presbyterian Church.
