Obituary of Katherine M Erb

Katherine M. Erb August 8, 1916- August 4, 2011 Katherine Moffat Erb, our sweet mother, peacefully passed away on August 4, 2011 in Santa Barbara, California. She was born August 8, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gail Sherritte Moffat and Katherine Macquarrie Moffat. Katherine was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority at the University of Utah and became an elementary school teacher. Katherine married Donald Edward Erb in 1943 and lived in Long Beach, California where she became a life member of the Assistance League of Long Beach and was active in charity work, golfing and became a substitute teacher. She raised two daughters, Marsha Mendoza, a Carpinteria elementary school teacher and Helen Erb, a television commercial producer. In 1990 Katherine and Donald moved to Carpinteria, California to retire near their daughter Marsha. They loved the beautiful mountains and ocean views and the small town community. Katherine and Donald were a devoted couple who were married for 61 years until Donald’s death in 2004. She could often be seen being pushed in her wheelchair in Carpinteria, always in one of her stylish hats, where she had a smile for everyone she met. The last year of her life Katherine lived at Cliff View Terrace in Santa Barbara where she played bingo, listened to music every day, played tile rummy, read a book a week, and had an active and alert mind up until the end. Her family was with her on her last day. She is survived by her daughters Marsha Mendoza of Carpinteria, Ca. and Helen Erb of Long Beach Ca., her granddaughters Melinda Mendoza and Maryanne Mendoza, and son-in-law Steven Mendoza, along with her nephews and nieces. A celebration of her life will be held at her graveside services on Friday, August 12th, noon, at the Carpinteria Cemetery. Reception will follow at the home of Marsha Mendoza.
